Questions

Frequently asked questions

Is WhiteBox SCM a consultancy or a software company?

Neither, by design. Consulting firms stop after recommendations; software companies start with technology. WhiteBox SCM builds planning capability first: organisation, processes, governance and decision-making. Automation follows once that capability is real.

Why do you say the problem is not forecasting?

Because the failures that produce bad plans are organisational: undefined ownership, weak processes, functional silos, reactive firefighting, missing governance and inconsistent execution. A better forecast does not resolve any of those. High inventory, poor service levels, constant expediting and long decision cycles are symptoms of organisational capability, not of model accuracy.

Do we have to take the full engagement?

No. Automation is our full scope, not a requirement. Clients can engage us for any single phase (assessment, future state design, implementation, digital enablement or automation) or for the complete journey. Every solution is customised.

What is the Planning Excellence Framework?

Seven building blocks that together make a planning organisation work: Planning Organisation, Planning Processes, Governance, Decision Framework, Execution, Digital Enablement and Intelligent Automation. Automation is deliberately last, because it multiplies whatever capability it is pointed at.

Where does AI actually fit?

AI should make planners better, not replace them. It supports every level of the decision stack: forecast generation, demand sensing, inventory optimisation, risk detection, scenario simulation, exception management, decision recommendations and planner productivity. But the higher the decision value, the greater the need for human judgement. Human judgement remains the final decision-maker.

How do you measure whether it worked?

Against the planning maturity curve and the outcomes clients care about: forecast accuracy, inventory productivity, working capital, service levels, planning discipline, decision speed, cross-functional collaboration, executive visibility and supply chain agility. The objective is to move clients up the maturity curve deliberately, one capability at a time.
